"Around two years ago, Austyn Gillette decided to drop his band name Part Friend and embrace the self-titled life of a musician. “It’s a scary thing to do,” he tells me. “But I think I’d be lying otherwise.” Flashforward to this year, the release of a 3-track EP ‘Most Kids Were Us,’ and a newfound sense of optimism in his music, and that scary hesitation is a distant haze on the horizon. “Singing is extremely vulnerable,” he says as we sit down to talk about his new video for single “Karaoke,” featured on the EP released this past June. And yet the pro skateboarder seems fully in his element, behind a $200k Steinway, flexing his ability to spin out a song with ease. Seems like creative exposure suits him well."
